
Sir Ian Murray McKellen CH CBE was born in Burnley, Lancashire, and is an award-winning actor who has won seven Laurence Olivier Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and other awards with a career spanning six decades. In 1999 he was cast as the supervillain Magneto i nthe 2000 film X-Men, a role which he reprised for its sequels. Another huge role McKellen landed was that of Gandalf the Wizard, in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film trilogy.
