Kate Bush released her debut single “Wuthering Heights” on the 20th January 1978, at the age of 19. The song peaked at number one in the UK singles chart for four weeks, making Kate Bush the first female artist to achieve a UK number one with a self-written song.
Bush wrote Wuthering Heights within just a few hours late at night on the 5th March 1977, when she was just 18 years old, after being inspired by the 1897 novel of the same name by author Emily Bronte, who she also happens to share a birthday with.
