It was Pink Floyd’s guitarist David Gilmour who helped Kate Bush launch her career after he was handed an initial demo tape from Ricky Hopper, a mutual friend of Gilmour and the Bush family. Bush had been turned down by record labels on the basis of this early demo tape, but impressed by what he had heard, Gilmour was undeterred and helped Bush record a more professional demo tape. The tape was then sent to EMI executive Terry Slater, who signed Bush.
