28 Weeks Later is the superb 2007 sequel to 28 Days Later, this time directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, as Boyle was busy with his film ‘Sunshine’ and wanted Juan to bring a fresh new perspective. The film stars Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner, Harold Perrineau, Catherine McCormack, Idris Elba, and Imogen Poots. The film had a budget of approx $15 million and has so far grossed over $65 million
FILMED IN BRITAIN
28 Weeks Later was mainly filmed in London, at Canary Wharf on the Isle of Dogs, with some filming done in Wales at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.
Six months after the original epidemic, the rage virus has all but annihilated the population of the British Isles. Nevertheless, the U.S. Army declares the danger past, and American soldiers arrive to restore order and begin reconstruction. Refugees return to British soil, but one of them carries a deadly secret: The virus is not gone and is even more dangerous than before.
MORE 28 TO COME… This may not be the last in the 28 films, as there has been talk of a third and possibly a fourth film, potentially called 28 Months Later, and 28 Years Later, and apparently Boyle confirmed in 2019 that he had begun preperations for a third film in the series.
